The Youth House of Vila Nova de Famalicão will be, from the 2nd of December, also a study space for the students of the county. While the Municipal Library's rehabilitation works last, and as it happened during the exams period in the Municipal Library, it will be possible for students from Vila Nova de Famalicão to use the space "out of hours".
Thus, during the months of December, January and February, the space will be open between 9h00 and midnight, from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays, between 13h00 and midnight.
The Youth House was duly prepared for this purpose and makes available 77 study places - 22 on the first floor, for groups, and 54 on the second floor, for individual study. In addition, seven internet consultation posts are also available. Attendance is subject to compliance with the rules issued by the Directorate-General of Health.
The measure is a response of the City Council to a need felt by the students from famalicenses that, in recent years, have significantly increased the affluence of users of the Library, often filling the space during the night hours.
"Our Youth policy seeks to meet the needs of young people. This temporary adaptation of the Youth House to a study room is a reflection of this permanent listening of the younger generations of Vila Nova de Famalicão", says the Mayor, Mário Passos.
The remodelling and expansion works of the Municipal Library started at the beginning of September. The intervention consists of the updating and recovery of the operational spaces - namely, reception, local fund, reading rooms, among others -, as well as the remodelling of the exterior space. The work, awarded to the company Costeira - Engenharia e Construção, S.A., reflects an investment of around 2 million euros and has an execution deadline of one year.
While the intervention is carried out, the home loan services, newspaper consultation and reading, and public internet posts are provisionally installed in the Vila Nova de Famalicão Parish House, next to Matriz Nova and Casa da Juventude, from Monday to Friday, from 10h00 to 19h30.
