The parish of Requião has been endowed with a new multi-purpose space for cultural, recreational and sports activities. The Mayor, Paulo Cunha, inaugurated the Requião Multipurpose Pavilion last Sunday, October 3, and the President of the Parish Council, João Pereira, with the blessing of the parish priest, Father Domingos Machado.
The Multipurpose of Requião allows the development of a cultural programming and promotion of recreational and sports activities in that community, in line with the policy of decentralization carried out by the local authority, being the result of an investment of 217 thousand euros, which had a financial support from the City Council of Famalicão in the order of 204 thousand euros.
The new multipurpose space is located in the heart of the parish, in front of the Requião Parish Social Centre and has a total area of 600 m2. The investment covered the construction of the multipurpose space and the construction of support structures such as reception, sanitary facilities, storage, among others, as well as the arrangement of the surrounding outdoor space and placement of a sound system.
"Everything we do is for the people" highlights Paulo Cunha. "More than a new space, Requião gained a new valence, (...) we are before an equipment that is available to people, their creativity, their empowerment, the creation or improvement of their skills," says the mayor, adding that "people need spaces where they can meet, where they can be with each other (...) where they can benefit from activities and events".
REQUIÃO HONOURED CITIZENS AND INSTITUTIONS
In this same session, the Parish Council attributed the Medal of Honour to the outgoing Mayor, Paulo Cunha, as well as to the businessman, Comendador Manuel Gonçalves, posthumously. Medals of Cultural, Sports, Social, Benemerence and Municipal merit were also delivered to 23 citizens and local institutions.
This act of public recognition was carried out for the first time by the aforementioned local authority body, as a way of paying tribute to citizens and institutions that stood out for their civic practice and attitude in various fields, with the intention of repeating it annually.
