A new pedestrian street, at the northern top of the D. Maria II Square, and a new form of enjoyment of the Alameda of the D. Maria II Square, with a set of esplanades that operate all year round. The new people-friendly and environmentally friendly city that is being born in Vila Nova de Famalicão has already started to be partially enjoyed by the citizens. The Mayor, Mário Passos, marked today the conclusion of the works in these two central areas of the city and announced the opening, as of today, of the D. Maria II Car Park, with a total of 86 parking spaces, even though the surrounding urban requalification works continue.
"It was difficult, but it will be beneficial for everyone". Ivo Albuquerque, owner of a terrace in the city centre, recognises that the space is "more pleasant, safer and with more movement" and already notices an increase of clients in his establishment.
The Mayor speaks of building a "city of the future" and has no doubts that the inconvenience of the construction work will be worthwhile "as we can already see, we will have a special and magnificent city. A dream city", he said to the journalists that accompanied him on the visit to the already concluded interventions.
The intervention is part of the works of Urban Renewal of Vila Nova de Famalicão that takes place under the motto "A New Centre. A New City", in what is one of the biggest public investments ever in the requalification of a public space in Famalicão. More than eight million euros are being invested in a more people-friendly, environmentally friendly and commercially close city.
