East Atlantic is a concert film that explores the fiction and documentary that unites the Azores archipelago with the sea. José Alberto Gomes and Miguel C. Tavares present a live performance through a journey marked by an immersive, abstract and uncertain environment. Inspired by Raúl Brandão's trip to the Azorean archipelago in 1924, Miguel C. Tavares and José Alberto Gomes travelled for 10 days on board the cargo ship "Corvo", departing from Lisbon and passing through the islands of São Miguel, Faial, Terceira, Flores and Pico. With "East Atlantic" they present the creation of an audio-visual piece in film-concert format that translates this imagery into images and sounds, with the Azorean archipelago and its insular condition as its theme. In a hybrid space between documentary and artistic object, the work explores and represents the dichotomous nature of the islands, both seductive and attractive and imprisoning and claustrophobic.
