Recount, half a century after 25 April and through the eyes of a black captain serving in the Portuguese armed forces in Mozambique, what happened there, in that immense bush where the metropolis imagined itself being defended and Portugal could still and always claim for itself the title of first and last European empire. Recount the unbridled precipitation of the times of revolt on both sides of the barricade: the revolt of some for the self-determination that would not come and the revolt of others for the war that would not go, Siamese revolts fuelled by bombs and propaganda, inhuman massacres and collective forgetfulness. Recounting the events that overlapped in Lisbon, where a Marcelist spring was promised that never wanted to bloom and was thus overtaken by Bravia chaimites and carnations and songs and a dawn that is still being celebrated today, but which in its silences abandoned, perhaps in the middle of the bush, a black captain, G3 in hand, with no homeland to distinguish himself from, now that one has become many. Did he lose or win the war? This is a story, a Portuguese, Mozambican, European and African tragedy that needs to be retold.
