"The Portuguese Colonial War (1961 - 1974): Between History and Memory" is the theme of the colloquium that will take place at the Colonial War Museum on October 9, as part of the citywide educational and cultural program "From Famalicão to the World". The event, organized by the aforementioned museum and by the City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão, aims to mark the 60 years since the beginning of the Colonial War and to make known the historical sources existing in the museum.
The colloquium counts with the presence of speakers such as Carlos Matos Gomes, retired Army Officer and Contemporary History of Portugal researcher, José Manuel Lages, scientific director of the Colonial War Museum, as well as researchers from the Institute of Contemporary History from the NOVA University of Lisbon, the Transdisciplinary Research Centre "Culture, Space and Memory" (CITCEM)/Faculty of Letters from the University of Porto (FLUP), from the University of Coimbra, among others.
It is worth mentioning the seminar called "Everyday Life, Memories and Traumas of the Colonial War", which will have the participation of a paratrooper nurse and former combatants, who will share the events they witnessed during the war.
The session will take place in person, limited to the capacity of the space, and online, and is accredited by CFAEVNF as a short duration action for teachers and open to the general public, with mandatory registration until next September 30, through the online form - available here.
Remember that "From Famalicão to the World" is a municipal educational program directed to educational and cultural issues of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, based on the heritage and local history, within the concept of Educating City and the current legislation. It presents a set of pedagogical proposals and suggestions, aimed at teachers, as a facilitator for the development of actions aimed at students from the 1st cycle of basic education to secondary education, which may be applied autonomously or within multidisciplinary teams.
