The City Council of Vila Nova de Famalicão will take advantage of the presence of hundreds of athletes in Famalicão next Sunday, during the Half and Mini Marathons, to promote the consumption of tap water and the reduction of the use of bottled water, as a way of raising awareness for the defence of the Environment.
Around 3,000 reusable bottles will be distributed to the race participants, with water from the public supply network, which, according to a report by the Water and Waste Services Regulatory Authority, is 99.9% safe.
The awareness action has the support of students from the Camilo Castelo Branco High School, who wanted to be actively involved in this action in defence of the Environment. The students will be distributing bottles to the participants at the end of the race, at the finish line.
"A citizen who stops consuming - for example - a 500 ml bottle of water per day, will be, annually, avoiding the production of 5 kg of waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions", says the Councillor of the Environment, Hélder Pereira.
Last week, Vila Nova de Famalicão was again distinguished with the Seal of Exemplary Quality for Water for Human Consumption 2021, in a ceremony that took place in Lisbon, at the end of the 16th Water Expo Conference.
