“Culture is alive and well present in famalicense daily life” highlight Leonel Rocha, Councillor of Culture, at the inauguration of the new artistic installation of the municipal gallery Ala da Frente: «Acidentes da Sombra e da Luz»,by Ilda David. The inauguration took place last Saturday, the 4th and was attended by the artist, as well as the curator of the space, António Gonçalves.
Leonel Rocha highlighted that "artists must be cherished (...) for the good they do us, for their art, for sharing their talent (...) if they didn't do it, we would have a poorer world", and praised the work developed in the municipal gallery, which "brings artists that stand out in the national panorama".
The Ala da Frente curator showed his satisfaction before the reception of another artistic work of high value. António Gonçalves said, "I am very pleased with this exhibition. Ilda's painting work (...) is based on the many readings she makes throughout her life (...) the authors and books in which she dives", and the work exhibited serves to "help us understand which are the hypotheses, the journeys that can be traced from these readings".
«Acidentes da Sombra e da Luz» is a painting inspired by the book The Narrow Waters (“Les Eaux étroite”) by Julien Gracq, which allows us "a walk through the countryside, through the interior of nature, where each colour, each aroma, each breeze, each reflection take on a particular dimension", as stated on the exhibition's room sheet.
Ilda David was born in Benavente and currently lives and works in Lisbon. Graduated in Painting from Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa, besides developing work of this area, Ilda David also dedicates herself to the illustration of books, having illustrated works of Camilo Castelo Branco, Maria Velho da Costa e Manuel António Pina.
The artist's work will be on show in the Ala da Frente municipal gallery until January 8, 2022, and can be seen from Tuesday to Friday from 10h00 to 17h30, Saturday and Sunday from 10h00 to 12h30 and from 14h30 to 17h30. On Mondays and public holidays, the space is closed.
